Black and White Vienna.

By Posted in - Europe & Photo Journal on October 21st, 2013 Vienna wine tavern in Nussdorf.

We set off  along the Danube in search of a wine tavern. I’d heard there were a few in Nussdorf–the town just south of the river docks that was quite now that autumn had set into Vienna. Cold grey skies followed us into town. Nussdorf sits at the end of a main tram line like the dot in the letter “i” a place. Beth and I had passed through town just 24 hours earlier as we made our way to the ship.

The town was shuttered and empty, and we weren’t having any luck finding a wine tavern. We walked up one more street that ran along the tram line and on top of the hill found a gravel driveway that led back to a wooden L-shaped restaurant and an outdoor wine garden that was closed for the season. We took a seat in the empty restaurant and ordered two bell jars of the house red. We drank the wine slowly and flipped through our pictures from our last few days in the city.

Here are some of our favorite Black & White photos of Vienna. If you ever find yourself in the city be sure to stop by the Cafe Hawelka for the famous Sacher Torte. It’s SO good and the ambiance in the cafe makes it one of our favorites.

Beautiful photos. I rarely take black and white photos, though these inspire me to start trying. The first one might be my favorite.

Vienna is such a beautiful city. One gets a whole new perspective on it, in black and white of a night. Great photos and make a nice change.

There was a reason all the wine taverns were closed – except for that one lonely restaurant. To set the mood for you selecting these lovely moody black-and-white photos…

Like so many other commenters, I really enjoy these B&W pictures, it really changes everything. Haven’t taken any B&W pics for our blog but you definitely got me interested! Personally, I’ve never been to Vienna but Austraia in general is simply amazing – perhaps my favourite country to visit.
