I’ve got another confession…I loved Baywatch as a teen!

Sure, I liked Pam Anderson and Nicole Eggert, but you know what, I also liked The Hoff (David Hasselhoff), maybe not as much as the first two, but I thought he lived a pretty cool lifestyle.

Now, keep in mind I was living in western Pennsylvania at the time and for years dreamed about living in Southern California, where sunny winter days replace the gloomy winter doldrums of the East.

A few years later I would make it out to San Diego and get to see firsthand the commitment and skill it takes to be a Southern California lifeguard. Sure, SoCal gets a ton of sunshine, but it also gets some intense storms–the Pacific can be a wild place, especially in the winter when storms can produce 20+ foot waves. And let’s not forget about the summer vacation rush that the region sees every year, where 1000s of people flock to the beaches daily to soak up some of the warm California sun.

Like fireman, my hat goes off to lifeguards. It’s a tough job and one that requires split-second decision making. While most reality TV rewards bad behavior, I’m really excited to see a show that showcases the hardships and life of true heroes. Without further ado, I present to you: Lifeguard.
