R2 D2 in HDR – Boston, MA – Somewhere In Time Travel Photo.
Somewhere In Time is a weekly travel photo from around the world. Enjoy!
The Christian Science Monitor in Boston is a great place to visit and I used to sit and relax on the grounds frequently when I lived there. The buildings are beautiful – come to think of it, now that I’m writing this I’m realizing that I have never actually been in any of the buildings but from the outside they are very cool. Really more than anything though it’s the grounds that I love. The grounds are meticulous being there is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The reflection pool is another favorite spot of mine at the complex. It’s a really peaceful place to sit and have lunch, contemplate the meaning of life or just daze out.
When we were in town for our Hartmann Luggage review we were staying at the Copley Square Hotel which was right around the corner from the Christian Science Monitor. We were able to walk through it a couple times on our way around Boston.
On a walk at night I was struck by the glow of building lights and the emptiness of the grounds. It was beautiful, very relaxing and quiet. I took a couple photos and this one was my favorite. It was taken while standing on the grounds of the Christian Science Monitor but the building in the middle is actually 111 Huntington Avenue or more affectionately known as R2-D2 for obvious reasons. The larger building to the left is the Prudential Center – one of the most famous buildings in Boston.
Boston is such a fantastic city. Every time I am back in town I always want to move back. Small, intimate yet urban & hip – I think it’s one of the greatest American cities. Plus the people are unlike anywhere else. Have you ever been? If so let me know all about it. 🙂
This photo is part of Travel Photo Thursday at the Budget Travelers Sandbox. If you have a moment, I highly recommend cruising over to Nancie’s (Ladyexpat) site for more great travel photos.

Gorgeous photo! I love Boston, too. In fact, I submitted a skyline (taken from East Boston) photo for Budget Travelers Sandbox a couple weeks ago. I like how you describe the city — “small, intimate yet urban and hip”.

No, sorry. Never been to Boston. Never been to the US for that matter. That doesn’t mean we can’t admire your photo from afar though. I love the parallel lines leading to the trees at the end.

Beautiful photo! I went to school in Boston and I used to love walking along the reflecting pool and feeling like I was walking on water. It truly is amazing there. One of many nice spots to enjoy the city. Thanks for sharing!

Oh waht a great city to go to college in! I moved there right after college and had a blast living in Allston and Brighton. The reflecting pool is pretty amazing. Trying to think of why I didn’t take any pictures of it when i took this one. duh! @Juls,
