Boys on Trains - Sorrento, Italy

I have previously used this photo in the post Boys On Trains where we wrote about how we ran into these boys on the train from Sorrento to Pompeii and the juxtaposition of the other boys we met on the train immediately afterwards. This is definitely one of my favorite photos from Italy and I feel it deserves it’s own little special spot in the Somewhere In Time Series.

I’m not sure if these boys were gypsies or why they were playing the accordion for money on the train during school hours since they were both so young but it was a sad situation. Their spirits seemed completely down and they moved through train quietly except for the sad accordion songs. I wish I knew their names and their story. Every time I look in the eyes and at the hands of the older boy he seems to have a lifetime of tales to tell – more than he should for someone his age.

I love this pic. I love how used the accordion looks and how the color matches the boy’s shirt. And his expression… too old for his age it seems like, ya?

Excellent photo! I’ve been on that train too, but like Seatlle Dredge, was part of the crappy point and shoot brigade at the time.
