Review of My Vacation App
Southwick, MA
Mon 11 Apr – Mon 11 Apr
Editors note: I created this review solely through the My Vacation travel app on my iPod Touch 4g. (Everything between the asterisks is how the travelogue looks when it is uploaded from the app to your blog.) My Vacation by Jasper Apps is available for the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.
Day 1 – Review Of My Vacation App
Southwick
Monday, April 11, 2011
I decided to take the day off from the social networks. After a few tweets, stumbles and comments, I stepped a way from the computer, and set out to document my day off in conjunction with my review of the My Vacation App. After using the application for the last couple of weeks, I’m really excited to get the word out about how beneficial My Vacation [2.99/Lite/HD] is for bloggers who want to create a quick post on the go, or for anybody who wants to keep a digital travelogue of their vacation that can be shared easily through social networks and the Internet.
First off, My Vacation is a pleasure to use. With a learning curve of less than five minutes, the app makes creating a multimedia travelogue easy. Integrating video and photos from your iPhone’s camera roll into your journal entry is a breeze. Or, if you prefer, you can take photographs directly from inside the application (all the photos in this post were taken while using My Vacation). Additionally, you can add a map location and caption to each photograph and video as well.
Once you have completed your vacation entry, you can then publish it on your blog or view your travelogue on a web browser like Safari. You can also post a photo set to Flickr and create a photo album or note in Facebook. Additionally, you can also email the entry, put into Dropbox or send it to another My Vacation app. These options, at least for me, are really what makes this app invaluable. For example, to upload this journal as a draft post into our WordPress blog, it took less than two minutes. Sure, WordPress has an app, but I find it is only useful for editing an already written post or replying to comments. On the other hand, My Vacation compiles your journal entry (I just did one day, but you can do multiple days too) with photos–videos from your travelogue can’t be uploaded at this time– into a blog post that can be published instantly without having to reformat anything.
Further, for each trip entry there is a “Lists” section, which gives users three tabs–To Do, Pack and Notes–to help aide with trip planning. Additionally, My Vacation provides tabs for online access to traveler resources–Map, Wikipedia, Weather, Taxi, Tourism, Time, Currency and Translate–for cities around the world as well as links to external websites: Expedia, Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor. Other features include the ability to add a voice recording to your journal entry, rate your photos and choose their upload size, and playback your vacation entry on your iPhone.
Featured by Apple and called the Best App for Sharing Adventures by O’Reilly’s Best iPhone Apps book, My Vacation is simply the best way that I have found to create a comprehensive digital travelogue while on the road; its truly the swiss knife of travel apps.
*The so-so quality of the photos is due to the iPod Touch’s shoddy camera and not the My Vacation app. The iPhone and iPad have significantly better cameras.

O.K., now its time for the good stuff. Jasper Apps donated five free iTunes codes for My Vacation, and we are giving them to the first five people who say, “I want My Vacation” in the comments below.

With a major school assignment due in less than four hours from now (I’m just taking a quick break) and two more final exams I can truly say that “I want my Vacation.” And luckily I’ll get one, in May, while I’m taking a class online.
I tend to bite off more than I can chew.
Anyways this app sounds pretty great, although I’ve got an old ipod Touch – sans camera. I find the wordpress app always crashes so finding just something to publish blog posts would be great.

Nothing wrong with being a go-getter 🙂 Good luck on your assignment and finals! I think you will really enjoy the My Vacation app, even without the camera. @Alouise

I am about to head off for a 6 month adventure, and I have been trying to figure out the best way to use my iPad for travel blogging. “I want My Vacation” because it looks like it could be a very handy way to create and post my content.
Thanks for the informative review!

I need me a Chinook! Everytime I see pics of it – I just love it! Oh, normally I wouldn’t put a link in here but I saw this couple on Etsy and they make candles (and live in) their RV. Granted it’s bigger but look how cool it is inside: http://www.etsy.com/storque/spotlight/featured-seller-pollenarts-12588/@Lorna – the roamantics,
