Somewhere in Time is a weekly travel photo from around the world. Enjoy!

Ahhhh…the Paris Metro system. I have a strange affinity for trains and subway systems. On my first visit to London I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I rode on the Tube. I thought it was the most amazing metro system I had ever ridden on and I loved London so much it was just the icing on the cake. That was until I went to Paris, then I was really in love – the people, the names of the stops, the beautiful tiled stations, the grungy nasty stations, the extremely elaborate frames on most of the advertisements – each stop was different, beautiful & ugly. I don’t know exactly what it is about underground subways or trains that I like so much. Whenever I board one I feel like I am on the cusp of something and I can’t put my finger directly on it. They make me think about the journey – whether it’s a personal transformation or the literal act of going from one place to the next. Being among a huge crowd yet riding completely alone is a surreal feeling – the feeling that anything can happen. It’s the spaces in between that matter most on any journey and it isn’t more in your face than on a crowded subway line.

Great picture and beautifully worded – you somehow articulated my exact feelings when I get on the Tube!
Thanks Will. 🙂 @Will,
I love the London and Paris metro system. Not only is it easy to use and with frequent train service, but each stop has its own character and charm. I think I went a little crazy taking photos of the train stations while in Paris.
Yes, I totally agree and I took too many photos as well. Glad to see I’m not alone! @Sheila,
Love that sepia tone you got on the metro photo. It’s like time has pass as the train has gone.
Thanks Sarah! I actually wondered about it but whenever I compared it to the BW it just kept bringing me back. @Sarah Wu,
