The Random Iceland I Love – Full Body Cozies!.

By Posted in - Budget Travel & Europe & Featured Post & Iceland & Travel Gear & Travel Resources on February 15th, 2011

Iceland, true to its name is quite cold and when I was there I discovered they take their handmade, woolen goods seriously.

There were a lot of things we loved about Iceland but one that stood out to me the most was the handmade wool & yarn arts. There were multiple yarn stores in the Reykjavik with amazing works of fiber art displayed in the windows.

The handmade fiber scene in Iceland is HUGE. I love crochet and knit items- be it blankets, hats, scarfs, etc. I love making them and I love wearing them or having them in my house. I saw so many stores in Reykjavik selling handmade knit items – it was like walking in a real life Etsy store. You can imagine how fantastic that would be!

Nothing could have prepared me for this bad boy though. Check it out!

A full body knit cozy!!! We stopped in a road side store on our drive back from Hofn and this beauty beckoned to me the moment I saw it. How awesome is this thing?!? It looks so warm and cozy -I want 20 of them! I love that it comes in a child size as well and it makes me wonder if they would make one for dogs too? Sadly I did not purchase it (too expensive for the backpacker budget & rightly so) but I took a picture so I could always remember how unique it was and so I could post a picture and share it on the blog. It was totally unexpected and just one of those fun things you discover in a new place. I really wish I was sitting in one now.

Do you love handmade items? Have you ever seen anything like this anywhere? Am I the only one that thinks this is the coolest thing ever?

I totally want one of those! Seriously. It looks so warm and awesome, the only problem might be that I would never be able to get out of it in the winter.

I now swear by Icelandic wool socks ever since my trip to Iceland in 2007. My feet were literally falling off from all the ice and snow when luckily my Icelandic friend offered to lend me one of his spare Icelandic wool socks, right off his own feet! To this day, I swear it’s the only reason why I still have two feet to walk on! Amazing!

Ha, that’s hilarious. I just did a Photo Friday from my trip to Iceland four years ago–I miss that place! Also, loved your shots on Matt’s site (especially the HDR one from Paris). Beautiful!

I miss it too – I want to go back really bad, preferably with a big wallet so I can rent a car for a couple weeks and drive all around. Thanks for the compliments on the article too. πŸ™‚ @Camels & Chocolate,
