Before traveling to Jordan last month, I had heard a lot of good things about it. Everyone we spoke with who had been talked highly of the food, people, and sweeping beauty of the country. I’m happy to say that Jordan lives up to its reputation that travelers have bestowed it. We traveled from Amman, Jordan’s capital city, to Aqaba on the Red Sea. Along the way we made overnight stops at Petra and Wadi Rum. Then on the way back to Amman, we spent an evening at the Dead Sea, where we took a sunset float. For us, the trip was an instant classic. Everyday brought new highlights, and so many laughs and smiles.

We’ve got a lot of stories to share with you guys, including a post talking about our experiences traveling through Jordan despite the turmoil in the region. (Spoiler Alert: It’s super safe–Jordan is like the Switzerland of the Middle East) To get things rolling, though, we thought we’d showcase our Instagram photos and videos from the trip to give you a snapshot about what we experienced on our epic journey through the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Good morning Amman. Time to start exploring… #GoJordan

Meet Ali. If you lived in Amman he would be your banana man. He sells them at the souk in the city. #GoJordan

I've still got some really great photos of our time in Jordan that I want to share. This is one of my favorites. It's a photo of our Beduoin host in Wadi Rum. This is his house where he hosted lunch for us. He and his family (wife and 4 kids) live here in the middle of Wadi Rum in two room tent. This part of the tent is the living room where they eat and socialize and the other smaller side is here they sleep. He is sitting in front of their kitchen making tea and coffee. They are nomadic, move whenever they feel like it and live a kind of communal life with other Beduoin, although they all live quite spaced apart. When someone needs something (like gas for the truck) they all pitch in and make it happen. Some beduoins may sell vegetables or keep a flock of sheep or goats for a bit of income but mostly they are a self sustaining and communal bunch here in the desert. I met his wife and kids as well. She was beautiful and gracious and the kids were very well behaved, friendly and full of smiles. Although she cooked us lunch she wasn't allowed to serve it or eat with us and only the girls of our group were allowed to meet her which I considered a huge honor. We were not allowed to photograph her but I do have some photos of their children. I let his oldest son and daughter take photos with the iPhone which they loved. It's an interesting way of life which on many levels appeals to me. I would love to try it for a week to see if I could handle it. Wadi Rum is such a magical place and the time I spent with this family in their tent was my favorite part of our journey in Jordan. Visit Jordan #GoJordan

Jordan is awesome! Petra especially so – just an incredible place to be especially at night when they light it with candles!

Instagram is such a joyous platform, and you use it so wonderfully. Right from the glorious first photo to those magical clouds and the incredible rocks of Petra, this gallery had me enchanted. I live in the UAE, so not at all far from Jordan, but somehow my travels always take me much farther. I think next time it behooves me to go wander through the magical lands so close to me.
