The Ultimate Maldives ~ Photos Of Gili Lankanfushi.
As many of you already know we are right in the middle of Maldives week here at Beers & Beans and today is photo essay day! Yay!
It took me a long time to go through all of these photos and edit them because there were so many good ones–it is basically impossible to take a bad photo in the Maldives. Whether it’s jungle canopied walkways, glistening palm trees or the perfect sunset blue skies, every corner you turn at Gili Lankanfushi is literally a perfect scene. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed–I was in love with everything and fully appreciated all of the amazing thought and effort that goes into creating such an incredible paradise. Especially since having minimum impact on the environment is so important to the resort. Gili is a perfect example of how beauty and ecology can go hand in hand.
Simply put, Gili Lankanfushi is like the girl with perfect, sexy bed hair. It doesn’t look like it took a lot of work but you know it did. The difference is simply that the designers who crafted it were so skilled, they made it look easy, effortless and utterly stunning. When you’re there you feel carefree, relaxed but still cradled in the palms of beauty, just like that girlfriend you have with the perfect bed hair.
I could go through an entire thesaurus coming up with the perfect adjectives for this island paradise, but instead I’ll let the photos do the talking. These are some of my absolutely favorite images from not only our stay at Gili Lankanfushi but from all of our travels combined. A couple of them have made an appearance before on our site but most of them are brand spankin’ new.
I hope you like these photos of Gili Lankanfushi! If you have a favorite or a question please let me know in the comments.
There is one portrait below that I’d specifically like to point out now. That good looking man by the palm tree is Ateef. He was our Mr. Friday on the island and from surfing arrangements to dinner and spa services he handled everything for us and often times at the last minute. He was absolutely phenomenal and always available to help us. He is an amazing painter to boot – he showed us several of his paintings and they were all amazing! We had such a great time with him on the island and felt like we made a new friend when we were there. If you remember our first post announcing our trip that was exactly what we were hoping for. If you go to Gili Lankanfushi you should ask and see if he is available to be your Mr. Friday, he is a truly beautiful person and made our stay even more perfect.

These islands look like a place you go to when you’re burnt out. Lounging, relaxing, swimming – it all looks pretty nice. Hope there were some cool ocean breezes to make the heat bearable.

Did your husband get to surf? Looking here for a honeymoon… One requirement of my fiance (the only one really) is that he can surf :). Beautiful photos. Well done!

Hi Liz,
Thanks for commenting. 🙂 Yes, Randy did surf but I want to let you know that the way the Maldives is set up. You can’t just walk into the water and surf because the break is about a mile off shore. There is a reef that surrounds the islands – this is what keeps it perfect for having a bungalows on the water (no huge waves) and also for snorkeling. But this means you need to take a boat out to the break. At Gili you can sign up to go surfing every day if you want and they will take you out on a boat. However this is one water sport they charge for (snorkeling, kayaks, paddleboarding is all free) so if he wanted to surf all day or surf every day it could add up. I would contact them to see if they can work out a weekly rate for you. The other option is joining a surf camp. There are even boats that people live on for a week or so just to surf every day, but I’m not sure how great that would be for a honeymoon since there would be little privacy. You could see if there is a local surf camp that could come and pick you up at Gili each day to surf as well. If you go that route just make sure they are somewhat near Lankanfushi island and not on the other side of the Maldives. 🙂
Personally I would start first by calling/emailing Gili Lankanfushi and finding out if they have a weekly surfing rate or if they can put together one for you. This place is absolutely perfect for a honeymoon. It is beautiful and private and completely relaxing.
If you do go with Gili make sure you take advantage of our promo code which will get you one free night in an over water bungalow. The promo code expires on Dec 27, 2013 so be sure to book it before that if you want the free night. Maybe you could use the money saved toward the surf package. 🙂
The Promo Code: You must write “Beers & Beans Special Promotion” in your subject when making reservation inquiries to get the special deal.

Also if you both like to snorkel I also recommend the night snorkeling expedition. We had SO much fun and it was so great to learn all about the different types of life under the water and see then at night (you use special flashlights that allow a lot of the coral and different animals to glow. Scientist don’t know why it works but it is awesome.) You also get a class beforehand about the sea life in the Maldives. 🙂
