You can have all the canned food in the world, but if you have no way to get into the can, then you have a whole lot of nothing. If you’ve ever found yourself in this situation, you know that it’s no bueno.

So, we’re going to show you a simple technique for opening a can without an opener on this week’s installment of 15 Second Travel Tips.

What You’ll Need

Hard Stone Surface
Knife (a Swiss Army knife works great.)
Elbow Grease

Directions

1. Find a hard surface, like stone, concrete or pavement.

2. Start rubbing. Cans feature a roll back seams, so the key is to wear the edges of the can top down below the seam.

3. Check the can after 15-20 seconds for the seam between the can and lid. You do NOT have to wear down the entire top edge.

4. Insert your knife (or other flat, sharp object), pop the top and enjoy!
