The Blue Danube in Black & White.
As part of our Gate 1 cruise down the Danube River we cruised through the Wachau Valley in Austria. This was by far one of the highlights of our trip. The views were absolutely spectacular and although it was pretty chilly (we were there in mid November) we bundled up and stayed out on the top deck of the Sound Of Music for an hour or so as we watched this gorgeous landscape glide by. The cruise directors were also on deck telling stories and legends about the different areas and at one point passing out pieces of chocolate.
This view AND chocolate? Perfection.
I hope you don’t mind that I turned all of these images into Black & White. I did this because the shapes, reflections and landscape took on such a beautiful monochromatic tone that seemed to me both simplistic and variegated at the same time. I just didn’t want to the light to have to compete with the color. You might recognize the top image as last week’s Somewhere In Time photo but the others are all brand new. I hope you like them!
If you are curious about seeing these views for yourself or learning more about the Sound Of Music cruise be sure to check out our other stories about traveling with Gate 1.

Good decision. They are scrumptious. Look like the best of pencil art. Did I say I love these photos?

Never thought about going to Austria before but after seeing these shots, I’m sold. Such beautiful shots and amazing scenery! I agree with your decision to go for black and white, I think it highlights how striking the landscape is.

Stunning photos! This posts strangely reminds me of my first dance at my wedding, as it was to the waltz “Blue Danube”. 🙂

Stunning photos Beth! I totally agree with your decision to turn the photos to black & white — some places just beg to be seen in monochrome, and I can tell that this is one of them. As usual, after seeing your photos, I want to hop on a plane and go there now!
