Snorkeling in Maui – A Photo Essay.

I love snorkeling. There is something about being in an under water world that is full of all mystery and imagination. Once your ears are submerged, the hum of life above land is muffled and your worries dissipate instantly. I could easily spend hours each day snorkeling and swimming.
So when we discovered we could rent a complete snorkel set in Maui for only $20/week we went straight to Boss Frogs and grabbed two sets. They also happened to rent underwater cameras for $20/day so we decided to splurge and rent a camera for a day as well.
If you are going to Maui I highly suggest that you go to Boss Frogs on the day you arrive and grab a snorkel set. Then you can have it whenever you feel like jumping in and swimming around. The beaches in Maui are beautiful and it’s easy even when you are driving around running an errand to simply pull over and jump in for a quick snorkel. Honestly it’s so beautiful that it is actually hard not to want to get out and go swimming every time you head out around the island.
We spent every bit of free time we had in the ocean – we saw turtles, fish and even a shark. Yes, I have a story coming up about our experience swimming with a shark – BY ACCIDENT. Very crazy and scary! Sadly, we only rented the camera for one day and on that day we saw only coral & a few fish. So there are no photos of turtles or sharks in this post but the underwater world of Maui is still very magical and I hope you enjoy the photos!

Oh, that sounds awesome Robert! One of my favorite memories from Maui was going for a swim around 5am and then a seal popping up less than a foot away from me!

Any idea on what model of underwater camera this is?

If I remember correctly it was a normal Sony Cybershot Point & Shoot in a water proof casing. Worked great and was very easy!

Great photos guys! That’s one thing we regret not having during our travels is an underwater camera, but like you said, we should just rent one.
Can’t wait to hear about the shark story!
Cheers,
Dariece

Love the pictures and love snorkeling as well, but I must say that for $20 you can probably buy a whole snorkeling set for yourself.

Love that you could rent a camera, smart idea! This is making want to overcome my inability to stick my face in water and not freak out about drowning.

Snorkeling is so much fun, looks like you found a beautiful and colorful reef! Creepy to be swimming so close to a shark…

I just love snorkeling. The under water world is so much fun. We can have new experiences under the sea with an altogether new world that consists of a variety of plants and water animals. Especially when the water is so clear and you can see almost everything below there.

These photographs are so amazing, I fell in love with colors of life all over again. Though I don’t know how to swim, I would love to go for snorkeling. The underwater life seems to have more to offer than we all think, thanks for sharing.

Wow! Amazing capture! It seems like you guys had great fun. I have never done snorkeling, but after checking out these snaps I would love to try it once. I like the picture where you are just lying and relaxing in the water (black & blue picture). Nice capture!

Really fun shots guys! I like the purple coral shot, it looks like the “brain” of the sea! 🙂 That’s great that they let you rent cameras while you were there. What kind of cameras did they rent?
