Florence is a city that Beth and I have always wanted to spend more time in, despite the fact that up until last fall, we had only spent several hours exploring this Renaissance paradise.

We finally got our chance in October, when we took up residence in a one bedroom apartment in the heart of Florence known as Cozy Apartment in Florence near Uffizi on Roomorama.com. For one month, we lived in Florence, scouring the city by day for the best cannoli and exploring the major outdoor sights at night when the crowds had dwindled. The apartment is truly a trifecta of awesomeness.

Despite being only a few minutes to the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio  (Bridge of Gold), Piazza Singoria and the Duomo, the neighborhood has very local feel. For example, at night people gather in front of delicatessens on a main corridor to eat and drink wine. Additionally, the apartment is only a 15 minute walk to the nearest grocery store and the Sant’ Ambrogio food market.

While I would have loved to try out all of the restaurants in the neighborhood, unfortunately that just wasn’t possible with our budget, so we did a lot of cooking. Most our days consisted of a late morning walk to the aforementioned market or grocery where we picked up fresh ingredients for lunch and dinner as well as some wine. The apartment has a full kitchen, which makes cooking and hosting dinner for friends very easy.

Another bonus to this apartment is that it really does live up to its name. With it’s exposed beams, tile floor, large bedroom, plush couch (also a pull out), a large flat screen TV and good WiFi, it is quite cozy. Even when our friends Erica and Shaun of Over Yonderlust stayed over for a few nights, the apartment never felt crowded. And that’s another cool thing about this place, the price on the Roomorama listing is for up to four people, unlike a lot of other places that charge you for each guest. I’ve talked before about how some host get it and others don’t, this apartment is the perfect example of a host understanding how to rent a vacation apartment rental. Luca was fantastic! From the moment we met him, it was easy to see that he cares a lot about ensuring that his guest are happy.

One thing to keep in mind if you are looking to book this place, it is on the 6th floor and the building doesn’t have an elevator, which means you’ve got 70 stairs to climb. Other than that, I really do think this is one of the best rentals in Florence, especially for families, a group of friends or a couple looking for a romantic getaway. The apartment is $112/night with a minimum of stay of three nights. However, it’s important to note that Luca also offers discounted weekly and monthly rates.

That sure looks like a cozy apartment. Love the warm colors!
A friend of mine lived on the 6th (and top) floor of an apartment for some time in Berlin and I must say, in the middle of summer with temperatures rising to 36°C, that was one hot place to live AND to climb to, as the building also didn’t have stairs.

I think apartment rentals like this are great if you really want to spend a bit more time in one place.
I’d love to do this with boyfriend.
On the other hand, when I’m traveling alone or with friends I like staying in hostels because it’s so easy meeting other people there.

      Hi Andi,

yes, it really was pretty big for being in the heart of the city. There was even enough room for us to do yoga in the bedroom!
