A couple weeks ago I went on a camping road trip with two of my closest girlfriends. As we rolled through Utah, weary from the road and cold nights spent in tents we were excited about seeing Panguitch. The Moon guidebooks had described it as what seemed like a buzzing metropolis. We thought for sure we would find a cheap, decent hotel and a grilled cheese.

As we drove through we quickly discovered that Panguitch had been hit hard by the economy. The place was a ghost town. Most of the restaurants were also closed so there was no hope for dinner. Sure there were plenty of cheap hotels – as long as you could sleep with one eye open. It was a weird place – it has a beauty that is similar to that of the Salton Sea. Cool to visit but you would never want to live there and feel bad for people that do.

We spent a full 5 minutes calculating how much beer we would need to get us through one night in a hotel in Panguitch.

We decided to move on.

I took this photo as we were driving through town. The sky was really cooperating and created these huge clouds that just sat on the town covering it with even more of a melancholic feel. It was beautiful in it’s own strange way.I love this photo. The dark grittiness of the streets and the family homes situated next to cheap, one floor motels pretty much describes this town. All you’re missing are the middle aged men walking down the streets with 12 packs under their arms. Don’t worry – I got pictures of them too.

This photo will eventually be part of myOut The Window series – which is badly in need of updating and I now realize I don’t even have a photo gallery for that portfolio on this blog. Ooops. I will fix that as soon as I can figure out how to make a gallery with this new theme.

Where have we been?

BnB has been a bit MIA, I’m ashamed to admit. We have been very busy with trips to Vegas, Utah and shooting weddings in between. Editing photos 24/7 has taken up most of my time. On top of that we have had some seriously annoying living situation issues which have tied us up quite a bit. We also tried to buy a house with disasterous results. But things are under control now and we’ve got some great stuff on the books:

• We filmed a hysterical gear review video this weekend which should be up this week. It features Randy
  reviewing his toiletry bag and it’s pretty funny
• We were featured on Brookevstheworld as part of her Female Travel Underground. If you haven’t signed up you should- it’s awesome.
• We are currently working on a guest post for Almostfearless which we are super excited about and should be done in  a few days.
• We have some great posts coming up on Utah, camping & hiking in Bryce & Zion National Park. It was so
  awesome I cannot wait to post some stuff  here!
• Fantastic photos from Joshua Tree National Park
• A visit to the date farm near Salton Sea, CA
• Oaxaca street photos
• A trip to the Anza Borrego Desert for some desert wild flowers in bloom.

The other great news is that we are set to leave on our bit RTW trip in September! We are very excited and it looks like we might be starting off with some wwoofing or work away type of traveling. It’s so exciting that after so many delays the trip is finally within our grasp. We simply cannot wait!!! Yah, Yah I am so excited!
