A young man tries out Super Bowl Recipe, Avocado dip, while holding his intel tablet, which he used as a cook book.

It’s Super Sunday! A day when millions of people will gather around TVs to watch the work of millionaires–players, owners and ad execs– as gamblers and non gamblers make outrageous bets on the Star Spangled Banner at the flip of commemorative coin.

For sure, there will be beer, vodka, chips, wings and a handful of other bite-sized appetizers in our near beach front property. But this year there will be more. In honor of the San Francisco 49ers making it to the super bowl for the first time in 18 years, I’m putting together a Chunky Avocado and Feta dip that I found on the Windows 8 Everyday Food app [free]. O.K., you are probably wondering what the heck does an avocado dip have to do with San Francisco? Well, it is an ode to Mitchell’s Ice Cream, a San Francisco classic, and home to avocado ice cream. Plus, it is just too damn cold in Massachusetts to be eating ice cream in February.

Since I couldn’t remember when the 49ers were last in the Super Bowl, I Googled it, of course, and came across this story on Mashable: The Last Time the 49ers Were in the Super Bowl. It brought back a lot of memories–Pixar, Pagers and the death of the great Jerry Garcia, but the thing that really stood out the most to me was that 1995 was the year that Windows 95 and Internet Explorer were released. In those days, the internet was ripe, even it did move at dial-up speeds, and I couldn’t get enough of it.

So, it’s amazing to think about how far we’ve come, especially when you consider that I found this recipe on my Acer W510 tablet running a full version of Windows 8, while sitting in bed. Then I easily transferred the ingredient list through the cloud onto my iPhone to do the shopping, and then used my tablet again to prepare the dip.

It is a really simple recipe and one that I think can really spruce up any outing. It would also be a fantastic thing to make while traveling. Here is the recipe from Everyday Foods (serves eight):

The Chunky Avocado and Feta dip for Super Bowl Sunday with Acer w5 Tablet.

Ingredients:

4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled (1 cup)
2 avocados, diced small
1 scallion (white and light-green parts only), thinly sliced
1 small red bell pepper, diced small
1/4 cup packed fresh dill leaves, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Coarse salt and ground pepper

Directions:

In a medium bowl, stir together feta cheese, avocados, scallion, bell pepper, dill, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper.

Putting feta cheese into the Super Bowl Avocado dip. Stirring up the Chunky Avocado and Feta dip with the help of Acer W510 Iconia Tablet.

As an extra thank you for stopping by Beers and Beans today (we know you have a lot choices when it comes to Super Bowl Sunday), I wanted to share one last thing with you from the golden year of 1995. Just remember, This Is How We Do It:

Let’s go San Francisco!

Full Disclosure: Intel Smart Squad sent us the Acer Iconia W510 to test drive; however, our thoughts and opinions about the tablet, Super Bowl and dip are entirely our own.
