Man, I love all the creative forces out there working for good.

C’est la vie to the Mad Men and Gordon Geckos of our world. Technology has helped level the playing field, allowing nonprofits to create imaginative campaigns to help shed light on people who an extra hand, like most of us do now and then.

For example, City Harvest, a nonprofit out of New York City, has put together this cute and comical collection of videos to highlight that in order for food to reach the hungry folks in the city, it needs a little help. In addition to their normal food rescue work, City Harvest is also helping to get food to people effect by Hurricane Sandy.

If you are not familiar with the incredible work City Harvest has been doing for the last 30 years in New York City, here is a some information from their website about who they are and what they do.

City Harvest is the world’s first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding the city’s hungry men, women, and children.

This year, City Harvest will collect 42 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers, and farms. This food is then delivered free of charge to nearly 600 community food programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bikes. City Harvest helps feed the more than one million New Yorkers that face hunger each year.

City Harvest also addresses hunger’s underlying causes by supporting affordable access to nutritious food in low-income communities, educating individuals, families, and communities in the prevention of diet-related diseases, channeling a greater amount of local farm food into high-need areas, and enhancing the ability of our agency partners to feed hungry men, women, and children.

Loved the idea of using technology to spread the word. The tomato was the best! I’m tweeting it now.
