When it comes to getting married, more and more of us are avoiding the traditional big white wedding at home in favour of escaping to an exotic location. There are many advantages to having weddings abroad. Rather than stressing out about who you should invite on your already-too-long guest list and worrying about whether everyone’s having a good time, having your wedding abroad will mean that you can enjoy a quiet and intimate ceremony on a warm beach surrounded only by your nearest and dearest.

A smaller wedding gives you the excuse to invite people you genuinely want to come, not who you feel should come. Plus you don’t then have to spend the day worrying about certain family members feuding or whether people are going to get drunk and rowdy. And with the cost of weddings increasing, it makes sense to swap overpriced mass catering and annoying family members for a piece of true paradise. You couldn’t wish for a better backdrop for your wedding photos than a stunning tropical beach.

A fabulous place to say “I do” is the Maldives. Located just off the Indian subcontinent and boasting nearly 1,200 islands, the archipelago of Maldives is a stunning utopia.

Whether you choose to chill out in a top class spa or enjoy the many watersports on offer, there’s something to keep everyone in your group entertained. What’s more, the Maldives government has legislated that there cannot be more than one resort per island, meaning that you get to have a wedding that’s truly private and personal. It also allows you to focus on just you and your family on your special day, rather than being swamped by holidaymakers all wanting a piece of the beach. After the wedding, you can extend your stay and enjoy a fantastic honeymoon in this idyllic paradise, and treat your family to Maldives holidays 2013 at the same time.

A popular activity in the Maldives is scuba diving along the fantastic reefs where you will discover the country’s exotic sea creatures. There are also many excursions to some of the local islands where you can explore the many quaint traditional fishing villages and taste some local cuisine. Or why not go on a night reef fishing trip? The boat workers will show you how to catch your own fish using lines and hooks, and you can cook and eat whatever you catch on a magnificent barbeque under the stars.

If you’d like to really get away from it all, you and your new partner can visit the stunning uninhabited Virgin Islands nearby. You’ll be able to enjoy the serene tranquillity of feeling like the only two people on earth – and spend your time in any way you wish!

To prevent costs sky-rocketing, a good idea is to plan your wedding outside of the peak times of December to April to get the lowest price available. However, if you’re looking to go when the weather is at its best, then this peak time period is obviously the most desirable.

Don’t let your wedding day stress you out – book a trip of a lifetime, explore a new part of the world and enjoy a wedding which is purely focused on you and those you love the most.
