I Heart Wailea Beach Villas: A Photo Essay and Review.
Story by Randy Kalp | Photos by Bethany Salvon
When I think of luxury hotels and resorts, I generally think of The Bellagio and The Wynn in Las Vegas. Both of these resorts ooze aristocratic style and grace, showing playboys, couples and high rollers the cosmopolitan side of sin city.
But as I found out in Maui, there’s a whole different side of luxury resorts that I had no idea even existed until our three night stay at Wailea Beach Villas. Unlike the aforementioned resorts, whose pools, hallways and common areas are bursting with other hotel guests, most of whom are traveling without children, Wailea Beach Villa offers a private sanctuary perfect for couples and families visiting Maui, which was recently named by Conde Nast Traveler readers as the best U.S. island.
Upon check in we were greeted with fresh flower leis and a welcoming Aloha before being shown to our ocean view villa nestled on Wailea Beach. There was a ton to love about our room in the Wailea Beach Villas, including an amazing bathroom, walk-in closet, flat screen TV, plush king bed, and my favorite, the windows because they allowed in the wonderful ocean sounds and breezes to lull me to sleep each night.
The villa itself was outfitted like a sophisticated Malibu, California, home (not that I’ve ever been in one, but I did use to watch a lot of MTV Cribs), featuring a gourmet kitchen and patio grill, stylish living room, flat screen TV, laundry and two other bedrooms. Not only was the patio equipped with one of the best barbecue setups I’ve ever seen, it also had one of the best views I’ve ever seen (plus, each night we had prime seats for the adjacent hotel’s luau). To say it it was a million dollar beach view would be an understatement. And to top it off, each villa is tended daily by your own personal housekeeper, which makes coming home after that long, relaxing beach day even better.
The property was equally luxurious with an infinity pool and access to the brown sugary sands of Wailea Beach. The Wailea Beach Villas’ lush grounds also feature comfy loungers, which are also placed on the beach exclusively for hotel guests. At first I couldn’t put my finger on why I felt so relax whenever I was in our room or hanging around the property, but then I realized that it is how the villas are designed as well as how Destination Resorts operates the Wailea Beach Villas that makes the experience uniquely your own.
The staff was attentive as well as genuine and discreet. The concierge can arrange a nanny, butler, or a personal chef, which we did partake in one night in one of our friend’s villas and it was amazing. Additionally, Destination Resorts offers other concierge services, which can be customized for you, like pre-stocking your villa with groceries or beach-side cabana specialty spa services.
Honestly, I could go on for hours talking about how much I loved staying at Wailea Beach Villas, but Beth really wanted to showcase the resort in a photo essay. And since a picture is worth a thousand words, I figured this post just may get too longwinded if I kept on typing away.
What’s the coolest place you’ve ever stayed?
*A big mahalo to Destination Resorts and the Maui Visitors Bureau who hosted us on our trip to the island. And while our trip was hosted, our thoughts, opinions and photos are entirely our own.

Mahalo nui loa Randy and Bethany! Beautiful pictures and wow – thank you for the comparisons to some great resorts! Conde Nast Traveler just named Wailea Beach Villas #5 on the Top 25 Hawaii Resorts, too. Hoping you are exploring and discovering local beers like Primo and Bikini Blonde π Aloha from Maui!

@Donna Wheeler, Mahalo Donna! Congratulations on the accolades from Conde Nast Traveler! That is really exciting and well deserved. I’m really happy to hear that you enjoyed our work. π
Actually, I could really go for a Primo or Bikini Blonde right about now. Italy’s got some great wine and food, but their beer selection is pretty average.
Aloha from Florence! π

@Escaping Abroad, That’s what was so great about this place, there were so many places to relax–the pool, the beach, the patio, the living room and the bedroom.

My favourite is definitely the third to last image. That wide sweeping waterfall is just beautiful, I would certainly love to sit at the edge of that pool!

@Travellingaroundtheworld.net, I did and it was awesome! There’s also a hot tub in the back left corner, which is surrounded by rocks and foliage and it’s equally as relaxing.

Your post makes me want to go – it just looks lovely. One of my all time favourite places is Tierra Atacama Resort in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile.

W.O.W – this is definitely more my idea of luxury than the Vegas places you mentioned. I could use a place like this right about now.
