I never used to be a foodie. For years, my palate was satisfied by such classic American fare as spaghetti and meatballs, hot roast beef sandwiches, Tex-Mex and, my personal favorite, Spaghetti-O’s.
Then a few years ago something happened, I started seeing food and chefs in a whole new light. Now, there’s a high probability that this foodie awakening was spurred by the likes of Anthony Bourdain and the slew of other Technicolor chefs that heat up the reality TV show kitchens on a nightly basis.
But let me be clear about one thing, while I maybe an accidental foodie, I am no food critic (or any other type of critic for that matter). Trust me, this is a good thing. Instead, of boring you with my tiresome clichés about the phenomenal dishes I experienced in Toronto, Ottawa and Niagara Falls, I’m going to leave the tastes and flavors to your imagination.
Tostada de Lengua (Tostada of the Tongue)
Thinly sliced cow’s tongue on a tostada with cilantro verde, cashew sauce, grilled pineapple, radish and beet sprouts.

That’s easy. The Langostinos at Tiestos in Cuenca Ecuador were one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Very economical compared to the US (I think we each spent a total of $25 USD) and the eight garnish dishes, including pickled onions and pickled hot peppers, as well as the ever-present ají (hot sauce) are a very pleasant start to the meal. The chef and owner Juan Carlos Solano greets all customers and ensures you have a wonderful experience.

Now I am already hungry looking at these yummy dishes. I dont prefer to experiment a lot, chicken lasagnes are an all time favorite easily available in every american restaurant. But the dishes here look amazing and I would really want to try some. The rasberry desert gave me a terrific boost when I looked at it.
