We’re headed to Canada!!! Yah!
This week!!! Yah!
We’ve planned nothing!! oops…
Yup, that’s right in true Beers & Beans fashion we have planned absolutely nothing for our upcoming trip to Canada. But in this case it’s not because we’re too lazy or because we have months on end to enjoy the ‘Where will the road lead us?’ game.
Nope, this time we’re unplanned on purpose!
Later this week we’re headed to Canada with the Canadian Tourism Commission and Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership as part of their Canada: For The Fun Of It campaign!
We’re really excited because Canada is a country we both wanted to explore and this trip is giving us the opportunity to do just that. But we need help from you to plan our trip and make it awesome!
How do you fit in?
We’re visiting Toronto, Niagara & Ottawa in just 4 days! We’re going to have a jam-packed trip filled with adventure, photos, food & fun. We’re getting a prepaid credit card to use throughout our trip and we can do ANYTHING WE WANT! ANYTHING AT ALL! But we have no idea what we should do!
We’ll be traveling with the help of two important mobile apps:
- Explore Canada Like A Local app – We’ll have this on our phone so that we can get all sorts of tips and advice while we’re traveling.
- #CanadaForFun – This Twitter hashtag is going to be our main main source of information. With the help of locals and anyone else who loves Canada we’ll be taking your travel ideas and turning them into a reality!

Remember we’re headed to Niagara, Ottawa AND Toronto so we have plenty of places to check out! We really need your help! If there’s something you love please tell us about it.
Keep in mind we not only love the in-your-face beautiful places but also the forgotten and unusual travel curiosities as well.
We’re dreaming big on this trip and want to have endless fun for the 4 days we are there. Here’s a couple things we’re thinking of:
1. Swimming with Polar Bears (Yes!)
2. Toronto Sky Walk (I’m already scared but I still want to try it!)
3. Bike Tour through Niagara’s wine country (Ahhh… biking & drinking go so well together – I’m sure it will be much more fun in a group then when I do it alone…)
4. Helicopter Tour over Niagara falls (What?!? Yes, please!)
5. Eating Everything That’s Good (‘Nuf said.)
6. Spa Treatment (Not sure where to go but there must be a unique Canadian Spa treatment with my name on it!)
7. St. Lawrence Market in Toronto (Ranked #1 Food Market in the world by National Geographic!)

You guys will have an amazing time! But after those 4 days are done, fly, cycle, or take a moose over to Saskatchewan. Go to a Saskatchewan Roughrider game, and then go to the Bushwhakker pub. It is MY favourite part of Canada!! 🙂
Travel safe!
Here are a couple of spots from two guidebooks I photographed for National Geographic:
1. Algonquin Park – amazing lakes about 160 miles north of Toronto
2. Halliburton Highlands & Walk in the Clouds – boardwalk path through a forest canopy, 65 up in the air! Also home to a wolf center
3. A plane or helicopter trip over St. Lawrence Islands National Park
If I had extra time I would go to Quebec, unless you are hankering for Saskatchewan and the Great Plains.
What you really need is 2 months to drive across the country! Ontario is such a small (well, in land mass it’s actually pretty HUGE) but a small part of the country. The west and the east coasts will give you a completely different vibe of what Canada is all about, with the beautiful prairies sandwiched in between. Having said all that I LOVE Toronto. You will have a great time and sip many a patio beer I’m sure! Queen Street West is a great shopping/restaurant street. There are so many great museums there…. The ROM, the Textile museum, the Ceramic museum.

Don’t miss Kensington Market when you’re in Toronto. And come visit us – we’re right across the road from the Toronto Island Ferry Terminal 🙂

How exciting! Although I’m Canadian, unfortunately I have no tips as I haven’t been to Niagara Falls or Toronto. If you make it to W. Canada then I can help you 🙂
There are many places to visit in Toronto such as CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, Hockey Hall of Fame and all. Some of the places are free for entery for some particular time. like The Royal Ontario museum is free in the evening time.
Make sure you take a boat ride pass the falls or stand underneath(all on the Canadian side -of course).

Here’s something for you. In Ottawa, you should check-out the Aviation Museum. Bah! Right? Wrong! They have bi-plane rides that will fly you over the Parliament Buildings. Absolutely fantastic as it’s open cockpit! Also, rent some bikes and ride along the Rideau Canal and down by the Outaouais River (where the locks of the Canal end). Beautiful views and a great way to cover some ground easily. Of course you’ll want to eat some Beaver Tails. You’ll find a Beaver Tail shack in the ByWard Market. Have fun!!!
So happy you’re coming to Niagara! Fantastic, world class wines are made in Canada and more people need to know! You must try Icewine – (or ‘liquid gold’) – it’s a truly unique flavour you won’t find anywhere else. Niagara-on-the-Lake (in Niagara) is also Canada’s culinary capital so you will definitely be able to find some fantastic food there.
My winery suggestion is Pillitteri Estates (the world’s largest estate Icewine producer and makers of awesome VQA wines as well) – it is right on your way into Niagara-on-the-Lake on Highway #55, and only about 20 mins from Niagara Falls – you’d be able to pack a whole lot of awesome into one day!
Downtown st.cath- microbrewery-Mercant Ale House(all made in house) and just up the street rise above-vegan resturant or Dani’s Bistro- amazin food
Niagara college teaching brewery (tons of amazing brews for sample & u can purchase growlers for the road) if the teaching resturant is open it’s always delish!
If you are near Ottawa a trip across the river to the Gatineau Hills in Quebec is a must see. Beautiful country.

Four days isn’t really enough to see Toronto, Niagara and Ottawa, but here are my recommendations for Toronto. For eating cheap in Toronto, visit Kensington Market in the College and Spadina area (it’s really an area of streets as opposed to a “market”) or drop in to the St. Lawrence Market where you can pick up pretty well any type of food, plus it has an amazing vibe. Yes on the CN Tower EdgeWalk if your nerves can handle it! Definitely check out Queen Street West for artsy and cool shops and restaurants. Ossington Street from Queen Street West to Dundas Street West is currently Toronto’s coolest street with bars and restaurants that are not that expensive.
