Somewhere between boating on the beautiful lake and taking in the picturesque volcanoes, you unwind, take a breath and begin to marvel at the beauty that surrounds you. The landscape is phenomenal with it’s deep blue water and run-down boats ferrying tourists and locals alike. Lake Atitlan is a place that forces you to slow down and appreciate the world around you. Any visit to the magical country of Guatemala should include a visit to Lake Atitlan.

That is exactly how I felt during my trip to Lake Atitlan, one of those places perfect for just sitting down and taking in everything around you. A place where everything just slows down and you can truly experience the moment for what it is. A rooftop with a nice cuban cigar, a cold beer, and the sun setting behind an array of amazing volcanoes. Wonderful way to spend a vacation 🙂

Also, which towns around the lake did you visit? I’m trying to plan another trip back down there and am looking to hit up all the places I missed the first time around.

We actually only went to San Pedro. We only had 1 day. I would love to go back and go to each little village. San Pedro was fun – interesting to say the least! Where did you go the first time around?

My trip was actually a short one as well, got to Panajachel from Quetzaltenango on a Friday afternoon and had to head back Sunday, but we spent pretty much all Saturday split between San Pedro and Santiago. Really wish I had more time in San Pedro it was definitely the more interesting of the two towns. I loved how the religious and predominant “hippie” community were able to coexist so peacefully, it seemed like they even one and the same there! Had enough time to take a nice horseback ride along the lake and saw most of the town, would love to have been there longer though. Hopefully next time!
