Where to Eat, Drink, and Sightsee in Plymouth, Mass.
America, as we know it, began in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It’s here that the Pilgrims landed after their arduous journey on their wooden magic carpet ride–the Mayflower.
In fact, you can still see the rock where the Pilgrims first set foot. And just across the way, the Mayflower II, a replica of the original ship, is docked each summer for visitors to gawk over. Really, there is history around every corner of the small city. Stoic churches, wooden homes with colorful shutters, and red brick facades, all come together to create the quintessential New England town. It is after all America’s hometown, and no red blooded American town would be without at least a few good eateries and bars.
The other day, after getting some terrible news about one of my good friends passing away unexpectedly, Beth and I decided to head into downtown Plymouth to walk around a bit. It was a beautiful sunny spring day, so I thought it would be a good way to clear my head. Plus, I wanted to take out my new pair of Swarovski Optik CL Companion binoculars that the company sent me to try out. Walking down Main Street with binoculars in hand, we came up with the idea that we should get the word out to others about our favorite places to eat and drink in town, hence this post.
But before we brainstormed any further on the idea, we wanted to have a little fun, so we headed to the bay, and I played around with the binoculars for a bit, while Beth and Chachy hung out in the grass. The CL Companion did not disappoint either. Now, I’m by no means a bonafide binocular man, like Beth’s father, Bob, but I’ve grown to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a quality pair of binoculars, as well as the pleasure of being able to see another side of a place. For example, there wasn’t much happening in the bay when we were there, but come summer, the bay will be full of activity and ripe for a pair of binoculars.
The CL Companion is slightly heavier than the CL Pocket I tried out last year, but I actually preferred the design and weight to the CL Pocket. And the size difference certainly wasn’t that great where I wouldn’t want to travel with them. They’re still relatively compact, and certainly pack a powerful viewing punch.
After spending time at the waterfront, we made our way back to Main Street, stopping along the way at the Blue Blinds Bakery for a cappuccino. And on that note, here’s a list of our favorite places to eat in downtown Plymouth.
Fave Burger Joint:
KKatie’s Burger Bar
38 Main Street, Plymouth Ma
Fave Asian Restaurants:
Bangkok Cusine | Thai
10 Court Street, Plymouth, MA
Asian Tasty | Chinese and Sushi
24 Main Street, Plymouth, MA
Fave Craft Beer Selection:
New World Tavern
56 Main Street, Plymouth, MA
Fave Coffee Shops:
Kiskadee(18 Main Street) and Blue Blinds Bakery(7 North Street). Both have a great atmosphere and coffee and snacks; though, I think Blue Blinds Bakery makes a better cappuccino.
Fave Breakfast Spot:
Percy’s Place
35A Main Street, Plymouth, MA
We’ve spent a lot of time in Plymouth over the last three years, and while the food scene isn’t as inventive as Boston or Hyannis, for that matter, all of the spots we picked have been consistently delicious, and our worth a visit next time your passing through America’s Hometown.

Even though St. Augustine, Florida was founded in 1595 and is the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States, you can say without tongue in cheek, “America, as we know it, began in Plymouth, Massachusetts.”? I believe Plimouth was settled in 1620. Maybe you could say Anglo-America (which would include most of Canada) began then. However, there is no country on this planet, to my knowledge, named “America” and if you mean the United States (of America) then your statement ignores a large number of multi-generation U. S. citizens who may well believe this country, as they know it, began elsewhere than Plymouth. Just my opinion; yours is probably just as valid.

Loved the burger I had at KKaties Burger Bar last year when I visited Plymouth.
