Sponsored Video: Shark attack gone wrong.
Despite living in western Pennsylvania,I still remember the fury Hurricane Hugo caused up the Eastern seaboard. Even my 6th grade science teacher got into the act, using Hugo as a teaching tool.
Hugo is the first hurricane that caught my attention and for good reason. At that time, the Category 5, which caused $10 billion in damage and 61 deaths, was the most damaging hurricane ever recorded. Since then, it has been surpassed by the likes of Katrina and Sandy, but for me Hugo will always be the storm that made me respect the power of hurricanes.
This hurricane season I’m hoping to do something I’ve always wanted to since I started surfing–try to catch some east coast hurricane surf. It looks like we’re going to be in New England for September and October, so my goal is to track a storm and head south into the Carolinas to ride its aftermath.
In the meantime, I’ve been refreshing my hurricane knowledge (it’s been 24 years since 6th grade) with the Weather Channel’s Hurricane Week, which started Aug. 5 and has been featuring original program and specials, including episodes of “Hurricane Hunters,” “Storm Stories,” “Storm Riders,” “Weather Caught On Camera,” “When Weather Changed History,” and “It Could Happen Tomorrow,” along with original specials “Sandy: Anatomy of a Superstorm” and “Coast Guard: HMS Bounty Rescue.
They’ve even put together this 15 second video, which I kind of can’t get enough of. You can check it out below, but the gist of it is that nature’s deadliest force isn’t the shark but hurricanes. Yes, bow down all thee shark overlords!
Shark or Hurricane, which would you rather encounter?
