One of the coolest things about running Beers and Beans is being able to share our stories and recommendations with others who have the same passion for travel as we do. .
During the past five years, our travel blog has become so much more than what we initially imagined–or I guess I should say what Beth had originally envisioned, since she was the driving force behind the site. One of Beth’s main goals with Beers and Beans was to use it as a way to connect with people and in the beginning that meant our family and friends. And while our audience has grown over they years, we still write our reviews with our family in mind, describing the hotel, hostel or apartment as we would to them. So, it always means a lot when we hear from one of our readers that they booked a place that we recommended–like this email we just got from our friend Gina:
“…I just wanted to drop you a quick line to say that I’m going to be in Istanbul for a week at the end of March (super pumped by the way!). I remembered from talking to you that you guys had gone to Istanbul, so I looked it up on your blog to see what you wrote about. In a twist of fate, my boyfriend and I ended up booking the same exact place that you guys stayed at in Galata (and by fate, I mean that we saw the place on your blog and decided to book it…)! Just wanted to thank you for helping us simplify the lodging search. :)”
I can’t even begin to tell you how happy emails like that make us. It’s why we do what we do. Beth and I know that most people only get a week or two for vacation a year, so one of our main goals is to help our readers simplify the planning process by giving our honest thoughts about places we have been or stayed. We loved that apartment in Istanbul and we know that Gina will too. Its location, style and comfort level were more than we had hoped for, and the hosts were downright amazing. I could go on and on about it, but I thought it would just be better to highlight the apartment in this post by showcasing the video we put together from our stay. Additionally, I’ve included links back to our initial review and to the actual listing on Roomorama (just click the title below).
Galata Sapphire Apartment | $75/night
“Everything about this apartment is 100% spot on. The location is killer – 5 minutes to the bridge, 10 minutes to the old town part of Istanbul, 5 minutes to Istiklal Avenue, 10 minutes to Taksim Square. Only 88 steps to Galata Tower and the square with tons of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. When we were looking for a place to book in Istanbul I was pretty sure I wanted to be in Sultanahmet, or Old Istanbul, but this little gem popped up and quite frankly I was sold on the interior. It just looked cool. I liked the blue/white theme and the details made it seem like somewhere I imagined staying in while in Turkey.” -excerpt from Living Like A Local With Roomorama: Istanbul Edition

What perfect timing! We are planning a trip to Istanbul this coming June and could use some tips and recommendations. I will be sure to check your blog when we start our planning (soon after we are done with our Whistler trip planning) 🙂

Hey!
This apartment looks amazing! So clean, so modern and sounds like it’s in the perfect area. We ended up in some ok hostel when we were in Istanbul, but it looks like if we had’ve spent a few extra bucks we could’ve had a killer apartment!….Next time 🙂
Cheers.
