I had been meaning to post about Roomorama’s recent updates for at least a week, but with our Guatemala fundraiser in full swing, I just couldn’t get to it until now.
A couple of weeks ago Roomorama announced on its blog–Blog-O-Rama–that it had exciting changes for both its guests and hosts. And I’m happy to report that the result is huge step in the right direction.
Proactive hosts are now rewarded on Roomorama by receiving a more favorable response rate “score” on their profile, which will give them better placement in the site’s new search ranking results. From my perspective, there is nothing more frustrating than running into a non-responsive apartment hosts when you are trying to plan a getaway, so this is very welcomed addition. Now I’ll have a better idea of who I’m dealing with in terms of their response time before inquiring.
Roomorama has also implemented a “book now” feature to streamline the booking process, which ultimately works in conjunction with rewarding proactive hosts–one hand washes the other so to speak. Now when you decide on a property you’d like to inquire about, you can preauthorize your booking which alerts the host of your inquiry and requires them to respond within 48 hours or else it will be cancelled.
One important thing to keep in mind, though, is that if you are in need of a last minute apartment rental and plan to contact several hosts for availability, then you should contact the host directly. Because once you hit the “pay now” button you will be on the hook for every inquiry that gets accepted.
While I haven’t had a chance to use the new booking system yet, I like being able to quickly see the host’s stats, because I find it gives me a better understanding of who I am dealing with and how serious they are about renting their apartment. We have met a lot of fantastic hosts on Roomorama, and I am happy to see that they finally have a chance to rewarded for all of their hard work.
