O.K., it’s time for a little pop quiz! Yes, I know its only a few days until Christmas and you are in full holiday mood, but bear with me, this will be fun, I promise. Plus, it’s only one question.

Would you rather a company spend all of its advertising budget on making a “viral” video or put that money towards some fabulous prizes that you can win?

Before you answer, check out this new video from TomTom!

Pretty cool, huh? Personally, I’d rather the company do the latter, like TomTom did. Look I dig a good viral video as much as the next guy (or gal) but I also like to win things, and that’s just not possible when huge advertising budgets are blown on the hopes of making a video go viral.

For example, the company put together this entertaining video, but also invested in creating a TomTom game that has a ton of fantastic prizes, which includes monster giveaways of six unique driving adventures for you and three of your closest friends as well as hourly drawings for its navigation systems. I also still think this has a shot at being a sleeper viral video.

Now that “viral” has become a buzzword for major corporations, I’d imagine we’re going to continue seeing them go full bore. But it’s good to know that there are companies like TomTom out there, willing to take the road less traveled; they are a navigation company, of course. 🙂

To find out more about what’s happening in the world of TomTom, be sure to check out the TomTom Facebook Page.

What do you think? Would you rather see more companies going for the viral gold or sharing the love with cool giveaways?
