The Hazy Shade of Autumn Tour: Europe and Beyond.

In less than 12 hours, we will be heading to Logan International Airport in Boston to embark on a three month journey through Europe, Turkey and a few points in between.

As some of you may know, we never imagined we’d find ourselves back in Europe so soon after our trip there last fall. It’s not that we didn’t want to go back (we both adore Europe), we just knew that our budget couldn’t handle another extended stay in the region. Enter an email from the lovely Katarina from WWOOF Serbia inviting us to WWOOF in her country.

“We believe that Serbia as a Balkan heart is a very attractive destination for WWOOFERS worldwide. A lot of them have already visited farms in Serbia from independent lists so that gives us a hope that we can establish strong WWOOF movement in Serbia.”

-Katarina | WWOOF Serbia

While we were thrilled with the idea of volunteering and helping out the newly formed WWOOF Serbia, we weren’t sure if we could fit Eastern Europe into our budget. Though, after a few emails with Katarina, a bit of research on airline and regional costs, Beth and I decided to go for it, putting our plans to travel to Southeast Asia on hold until after the New Year.

To get the most out of our time in Europe, we decided to see if we could book our flights into and out of two cities in western Europe that really wanted to visit. Luckily, one of the cheapest flight we found was on Aer Lingus, which arrives in Amsterdam on Sept. 29 and departs Paris on Dec. 16.

So, what the heck are we going to be doing for three months in Europe?

Initially, we were going to play tourist in Amsterdam, WWOOF for two weeks in Serbia and then travel through the Balkans and Turkey before catching a budget flight to Paris. But then Eurail.Com offered to provide us with two Global Passes (Big ups to Ayngelina of Bacon is Magic fame for her help in connecting the dots), which now gives us the chance to check out a monstrous amount of countries, including dream destinations like Swizterland (Beth) and Austria (me).

While we are still mapping out our route, I can say for sure we will be visiting Amsterdam, Serbia, Turkey (hopefully rendezvousing with Brooke from Brooke vs. the World), Greece and Hungary and Paris. Additionally, we have a few exciting surprises that we will be revealing in the coming weeks once all the details are finalized.

As always thank you for reading! It’s been a roller coaster of a year and the ride isn’t over yet. In fact, it looks like it’s just getting started…

The whole thing sounds fantastic. If you get to Switzerland and are transiting through Zurich (where I live) I’d love to show you around unless I’m away.
