Canal of Dreams - Venice, Italy

We all have dreams. Plop them down in the canal and let them sail. This is Venice, Italy. It’s waiting for you.

    I like Venice at night when it is so empty.

      Me too. Favorite time to be there is at night. It’s amazing.@Vi,

    Venice is waiting for me! Maybe for a wedding anniversary?

    Another great photo. Venice will have to wait for us for just a little while longer, unfortunately. It’s not in our immediate travel plans. 🙂

    What did this sound like? Was it quiet? Or was there a club thumping nearby? This looks awesome!

      Venice is extremely quiet at night. Imagine this: You’re walking down the street and in the distance you hear the chatter of people talking and the clanking of forks on plates, then you hear dishes being washed and chairs being put away. Make a couple turns and you end up in the middle of a square where people are drinking wine and eating. It’s sublime. Venice is best at night. I have a whole post or 2 of photos at night there just need to get to them to edit them. It’s simply stunning at night.@Erica,

  • I never get tired of photos of Venice. Italy has so many gorgeous places. I don’t have any night photos of the canals. This is a cool shot.

    Beautiful picture, may I say that my pics at night are terrible and that I always forget the tripod because too heavy? 😉

      Thanks Angela. Yes, I tend not to travel with a tripod either. Two tips to improve your shots at night w/out a tripod: Balance the camera on a steady surface (for this pic I put it on a bridge railing) then use the self timer to avoid camera shake. Sit back and let the camera work it’s magic. Let me know if that helps. 🙂 @Angela,

      awww. Thanks Michael. Can’t wait to get to the rest of these – venice at night is pretty fab!
      @Michael Hodson,

  • I’ve been to Venice twice and loved it at night especially! Although I was camping on Lido and the water taxis did not run very late when I was there… 🙁

      Oh speak to me! We almost camped in Venice but didn’t for the exact reason you stated. We had the issue in Paris and always had to return early and I didn’t want to repeat that in Venice but I was really curious about the camping there. How did you like it and what campground did you stay at? @Raymond @ Man On The Lam,

    Venezia is so beautiful. Especially in winter, all misty and mysterious. Gorgeous photo.

    I went to Venice on my first ever trip to Europe and haven’t had a chance to go back since. Really want to – gorgeous shot!

      It’s kind of out of the way in Italy a bit, I can see how a lot of people can’t make it or make it back. But then again you need like at least a year to do Italy right I think! 🙂@Andrea,

    Stunning shot. I have been to Venice 3 times, all before my 20th birthday. I would love to go back.
