Guatemala.
L
ast summer we received a media fellowship from Cooperative For Education to travel with them in Guatemala and volunteer at some rural schools. We provided significant coverage for them on our site and complete social media coverage (#CoEdGuatemala) before and after our trip.
Cooperative For Education is a non-profit based in Cincinnati & Guatemala City that has worked very hard to break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala through education. They provide education resources and opportunities to indigenous Mayan schoolchildren in Guatemala’s Central & Western Highlands.
It was undoubtedly one of the best trips we have taken thus far and we were so excited to travel with CoEd to help spread their word of their international charity and provide an inside glimpse of what it looks like to volunteer with them in Guatemala.
We had such an amazing time on our trip we decided to also further support the cause by raising $2,000 to sponsor two computer work stations at the school in Panajxit. A month later, we surpassed our goal and raised over $2300 through our online fundraiser!
This type of volunteering was closer to the heart–the kind that involves laughter, school work and trying to communicate with kids (from 5 – 17 years old) without a common language.
