Somewhere In Time is a weekly travel photo from around the world. Enjoy!

One of the first things we wanted to see in Paris was the Eiffel Tower. However after a long day on our feet and taking the wrong metro stop we weren’t wowed by it. Which was obviously, sad. I mean this is the Eiffel Tower – this is one of the most amazing sights in the world. I was loving Paris, so why wasn’t I feeling this?
I was determined to go back and see what I knew was really there- whatever it was I had missed before. We made it back the night before we left and this time we got off at the right metro stop. That made all the difference in the world. Instead of wandering by crappy crepe carts (I know, I tried them) and seeing peeks of the tower as we winded down dark alleys, we wandered up a bustling avenue and then suddenly, it appeared. Exactly as I had imagined it in my mind – glowing, luminous and perfect in every single way. I think I actually gasped when I laid my eyes on it the second time.
It had just rained and the reflections in the puddles made the ambiance even more beautiful. The tower glittered, children played, lovers kissed, people laughed and I took photos. I recently decided to take 3 of them and make an HDR photo out of them. I hope you like it as much as I do. If you want to view it in as full screen just click on the two arrows on the lower right hand corner of the gallery below.

This is not just another shot of Eiffel Tower! Great one, as you know, I’m a fan of your HDR collection and that really affects me in choosing our new camera!

What a gorgeous photo! I’m sorry to say that in our week in Paris, we only saw the Eiffel Tower from a bus tour and from a boat on the Seine. We just never quite made it all the way there from our apartment in St. Germaine. Like you, feet worn out every day! But even from a distance, and from the vehicles, it was stunning.

I know what you mean! Paris is just so tiring to walk around all day and somehow the Eiffel tower seems out of the way. Good you got to see it from a distance though! @Vera Marie Badertscher,

We are going to get a waterproof (replacing the one we have right now) and an SLR. Not sure about the particular brand/model since Ryan loves to search the balance between good quality and good deal. We’ve been waiting for a great deal for a good camera, hope it will come soon because I really want to try the HDR!!

Good luck! I know in the Nikon world, a good deal is never really to be found. It seems prices only drop when a new replacement model comes out. I wish one day they would have a huge sale but it never happens. @Dina,

Great picture! I love how blurry the Eiffel tower looks, it kind of gives it a dream like quality, and all the lights flashing too, it looks fantastic!

Wow it feels so dreamy and pretty. Nice picture : ). I always want to see the Elffel tower so if I go to Paris, that will be my 1st stop on my list. I love the tower so much that i even print out a stock image of the tower 2 yrs ago and hang it on my wall in my living room. One day I’ll replace it with the real picture I took when I visit Paris
. Thanks for sharing this beautiful picture with us girl.

Wow, this looks amazing! I just learnt about HDR in my photography class last week so this is something to aspire too! Did you take three photos or more? And what photo editing program do you use? Sorry for all the questions – only just starting to learn how to use my DSLR properly (ie. not on auto)!

Thanks Rebecca! I think this was a combination of 3 exposures. It could’ve been up to 5, honestly I can’t remember. I used PhotoMatrix Pro for the processing.
Good luck with your class – I think it’s great you’re learning how to use your camera!
That’s very exciting;) @Rebecca,
