Somewhere In Time is a weekly post featuring a photo from around the world. Enjoy!

The Grand Canyon is a natural spectacle. If you haven’t made the trek out you need to. It’s amazing. If you have some time try to do some hikes into the canyon. If you’re not a hiker and you have several months to plan try to book a mule ride down. Be warned though – I’ve heard it’s much scarier than the hike! The Grand Canyon is a deep abyss – do you really want to be on top of a mule while you wind down 1 – 2 foot trails? I don’t think I could handle it.

Photographer’s Tip: Wait for the right light. As amazing as the Grand Canyon is it can be tough to photograph. You probably know this if you’ve already tried yourself. Because it is so deep and cavernous it can turn into a mucky, bluish/grey mess on film or in digital. You need to get some contrast to make it pop. Wake up for the sunrise or wait until sundown to get the glow on the canyon walls. Then snap away!

I HIGHLY recommend the Rim to Rim to Rim hike, which is possible in a day if you’re in shape though you have to pick the right time of the year to do it. If you don’t want to do the whole thing a stay at Phantom Ranch (booked a very long time in advance unless you get a cancellation) and finish the hike the next day. You can return via a shuttle or retrace your steps – though there are actually a few options heading down from the South Rim.

    Nice shot BTW.

What a beautiful photo. We met so many people that have traveled through the States lately, that we are feeling a road trip may have to be in the works in the near future. We have never been to the Grand Canyon and would love to hike it. At Everest you could hire a horse if you like and we thought the same thing…That would be crazy, hiking is much safer:)

This is a stunning photo–I love the vivid colors. I found you via your Almost Fearless guest post, and I loved those images. I have always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, but have only seen it when flying over it! One day I will get there, though not sure I can handle the mule ride!

Hi Emily – thanks so much I’m glad you like all the photos. To be honest, i don’t know if I could handle the mule ride either. – Beth
